Þórir: "WTF Grettir burned my sons!??"
Skafti: "Uh, we have no witnesses of that and there's at least two versions of the story and -"
Þórir: "Do I look like I care."
Þórir: "OUTLAW THE FUCKER"

Grettir comes home to Iceland.
People: "Grettir your dad died."
People: "Also your brother Atli got chopped."
People: "Btw you're an outlaw cause some folks say you burned people in a house."
Grettir: "Oh."
Grettir: *steals a horse*
Sveinn: "Hey stop you -"
Now happens perhaps the weirdest horse chase ever: first goes Grettir, stopping to sing at random people. Sveinn then listens to these people sing it to him, sings a stave of his own and continues after Grettir. One has to wonder if he had not caught up to him a long time ago without all of these stops.
Anyway he finally catches up to him, they sing more staves to each other and practically swoon over each other's skills. They become the bestestest friends somehow - IDK stealing someone's horse isn't usually the way to make them your eternal friend but Icelanders are mysterious.
Grímur: "So yeah sucks that you're an outlaw. Btw your mum's a bit mad about the killing of your brother Atli, so do something or God help you."
Ásdís: "Yeah."

Þorbjörn: "Whoops that's Grettir for sure. Quick, son, you go chop him in the back with your little ax."
Arnór: "Aye!"
Grettir: *chop*
Þorbjörn: "FFFFFFFFFFFFF-"
Grettir: *chop*

Grettir goes away because it's bad luck for the whole household to a) host an outlaw who b) killed this dude that lives nearby. A guy called Þóroddur takes up the avenging of Þorbjörn. They gather up a huge party and go after Grettir but he manages to escape to the Westfjörds without anyone seeing. Sadness ensues, no party for the party.

Þorgils: "Ok Grettir I'll put you up for the winter. See those two lads there, Þorgeir and Þormóður, you're absolutely forbidden to fight them. Þorgeir and Þormóður, this is Grettir and you're absolutely forbidden to fight him."
Grettir: "Aw."
Þorgeir: "Aw."
Þormóður: "No probs I don't even like to fight."
Þorgils' ox is in an island and needs to be brought back for the winter. Þorgeir, Þormóður and Grettir go get it. Grettir stand in the icy sea to hold the ship while the two go get the ox, and then Grettir rows them all home. There the two kind of leave him with the ox because there's no way they want to help that Grettir, he only was a great help and probably saved them too.
Oh but it's ok because Grettir's so strong he just carries the ox home.
Þorgeir: "This pisses me off. Grettir! FIGHT ME"
Grettir: "I thought you'd never ask!"
Þorgils: "Did you seriously not understand what I said about fighting being forbidden."
Grettir: "Aw."
Þorgeir: "Aw."
